@ItsJustSeb asked:

So me and my friends are playing through Treat (most of us are completely blind and we've only made it up to chapter 3), and from a first impression basis, I have to ask, did anything in particular motivate you to write a story about, (what I interpret as), for lack of a better term, microaggressions and stereotypes?

Speaking as a Latino, ive unfortunately had some run ins with that kinda thing and so has my family, so it feels pretty cathartic in all honesty to have someone write about it in a way thats actually carefully handled, even if its not direct.

(And if you havent written it from any personal experience at all, then kudos, because imo its portrayed pretty well.)

oh this is nice... thank you, i'm glad you felt it was portrayed well!

a theme i'm really fixated on is others having certain expectations of you, and overarching societal expectations in general (this is huge in disgaea: "demons are like this, so as a demon i must" etc etc... like, the main villain of d1 decides demons are all bad and angels are all superior. but it's just different cultures!!!! sorry for the disgaea tangent but it feels so relevant to how i think about treat's world hahaha, i don't think i'm explaining it well here so once again i will just ask everyone to play disgaea)

i think probably every human on earth has been misjudged in some way before so it's kind of universally relatable. my personal experience of it is with gender and sexuality (more often an internal struggle to conform than someone directly hurting me with stereotypes) but yeah... i've gotten emails before from people who like, maybe just happen to have a really large build so strangers are inherently afraid of them, that really related to treat on that level. it sucks to get mistreated over bad/incorrect assumptions, and it feels like a space with a lot of different nuance to explore, which is why i enjoy writing about it even if it brushes up against extremely touchy topics!!

umm this answer feels very rambly so i hope it made some amount of sense... enjoy the rest of treat, it only gets better from there haha

Dont worry, it made sense (to me anyways lol)
Thanks for the in-depth answer! I feel like it really harms us the more we shy away from subjects like this, so I applaud you for really pushing to portray messages like this in a lot of your games

good!!!! yeah to add just a bit more to my answer: it's been a huge cultural talking point especially in recent years, so i think that's been another big factor of why it's so heavily on my mind... trying my best to avoid the usual pitfalls of "animal racism" lol, hopefully by the end of the game everything will be unambiguously clear!!! (there are a lot of hints at the nuances already but yeah)
