me in 2014: really? these imperial commanders have nothing better to do than charge a goat man with treason because he’s selling fruit? this is kid crimes, i hope this show matures as it goes on

me in 2022: the twisted reality of post-PORD Imperial rule is that extreme reactions gain efficiency as they target smaller infractions. much like how the tarkin doctrine will eventually use planetary destruction as the ultimate whip to keep systems in line, the extreme sentencing of minor infractions turns each imperial officer into a death-star of human lives. this is broken windows policing taken to its nth degree. of course resisting giving officers fruit is treason; it makes as much sense as andor being arrested for walking while sweating. but behold, luthen’s plan is taking effect even in distant lothal— this is the moment that pulls ezra bridger from the shadows and begins his first true brushes with rebellious action

this is honestly good to hear - it's been a while since I watched Rebels and MOST of what I remember about season 1 is that the visuals were such a downgrade from s6 of Clone Wars, lmao. I'm curious to see how it interacts with Andor.

It's always very funny to me how much Rebels became a bedrock in the new canon since it was the first thing to come out more or less. Even Clone Wars wasn't that Foundational To The Canon in the Legends era lol

I will say one place it does lose some luster is with Mon Mothma— I watched those episodes, and while the events of them are great in terms of the character’s overall arc, the actual writing and characterization of Mon Mothma just hasn’t been cracked yet. That said, they actually have Genevive O’Reilly in the booth!

Yeah that was more or less my suspicion. Andor is sort of an unprecedented in depth characterization of Mon Mothma so I'm guessing a lot of her older appearances might feel a little lackluster by comparison.

Plus her hair in Rebels was just awful lol

My partner and I watched the final seasons of Clone Wars and all of Rebels for the first time in preparation for Andor, and I really enjoyed Rebels. I can't remember what I was thinking during this particular scene, but I definitely got a "fuck cops" vibe overall, which was great.

I recently read someone summarize Rebels as “rebellion creates a community” and Andor as “community creates a rebel” and I really like that dichotomy. Scenes like this bear it out— Ezra doesn’t know that Gotal at all, but fuck the cops, and now there’s a link between them.
