Nothing pisses me off more than watching ads. Twitch became unwatchable when my method for blocking twitch ads stopped working, and now with youtube detecting adblockers I actually can't even watch anything there. I am going to stop watching youtube entirely unless a workaround can be found.
Two questions:
Am I part of the minority in my absolute disgust for this? I have always felt that advertisements are just extremely manipulative wastes of time, and I have never understood how so many people don't seem to care that something is intentionally trying to manipulate them. I know NOBODY likes ads, but is there some special part of my brain that just has absolutely no chill when it comes to this?
How are ads even good for business anymore? Youtube consistently advertises things to me that I will NEVER purchase like car insurance (which I already have) or mobile games (which I know better than to even try.) In fact seeing an ad is more likely to turn me off from a product rather than turn me on to it. I think the only successful advertisement I've received in the past 5 years was for OperaGX which I have used pretty regularly since. How does spending so much money on advertisements actually help a company make money anymore? Surely the rate of return just isn't enough to justify the cost right?
