firstly, thank you for joining cohost. this is my personal blog so i'm just speaking for myself, even though my thoughts do generally tend to align with my comrades here at assc.
anyway, thanks for being here. i am very excited and very anxious for yall to see what we have coming down the pipeline! cohost is our attempt at making online just a little bit friendlier and more community-focused. it isn't really intended as a replacement for twitter (but it could be if you want!), just a more human way to Post.
quite honestly: we're just getting started. there's literally only three of us working on cohost, so we move a little bit slower than most big social media sites; the benefit to you is that we're real people who love our jobs and aren't beholden to any execs or stockholders or advertisers. this is really, really important to us as a company and i really hope that's evident as we build and improve on the site. it sounds corny, but all i want is for cohost users to feel good when they're here, both in the sense of "this website is made by people who value a lot of the same things i do" and "the users on this website make Good Posts and the staff actually bans transphobes." "work fast and break things" is great for some, but here we try to lean towards "work thoughtfully and do it right."
it's appropriate that today is the tenth anniversary of everything happens so much because that's the general vibe at cohost hq right now. i'm obviously a bit frazzled, but because my blog has a lot of visibility i wanted to highlight some important things that you may have missed while scrambling to get a choice username:
- tag/user search is our next feature, and we are already working on it!
- cohost will NEVER have ads or an algorithm.
- we're not going to ban porn.
- all anti software software products are certified crunch-free.
(what this last one means in practice is we work 9-5, take breaks, rest when we're sick, and have health insurance and time off. a website, no matter how fun or cool, is not worth anyone's mental or physical health.)
i'm really happy you're here. thank you for sticking with us and being patient through our growing pains; we want cohost to be sustainable and are working hard to make it even better for you.
thank you for using cohost.
❤️aidan
