rewatched star trek ds9 s6e13 "Far Beyond the Stars" with some friends tonight. which is maybe not just one of the best star trek episodes ever but an all time episode of television.

for some fucking reason @sullivan has decided to follow that up by putting on star trek voyager s2e15 "Threshold". an episode that is a crime against humanity and makes my eyes bleed

when you cross the time warp threshold but she keeps sucking

(I watched SO much Voyager as a preteen/teen and I am so afraid to try and go back. I've also been rewatching DS9 recently and it has been amazing, 2 decades later that show has only gotten better with age in most regards and nails a lot of the things I like most in sci-fi. I do not think this would be true of Voyager, which is wild because when I was young I felt the EXACT opposite.)

also yeah as someone watching DS9 for the first time all the way through and catching incidental voyager episodes as friends have them on in discord, the gulf between the two is so fucking striking lmao

There is some quote Austin told me about from a writer or director??? who did some work on Voyager who explained that because Voyager was supposed to be a return to form in the model of TNG the production was more self-serious, and they would look over enviously at the DS9 team who were kind of just doing whatever and playing with the storytelling more because they didn't have those same expectations foisted on them

and I think about that a lot.

oh yeah that was fucking Bryan Fuller!! he did a ton of work on Voyager and wrote a couple of (really good, really Bryan Fuller ass) DS9 episodes and had some big quote where he talked about how Fucked the vibes on Voyager were compared to the DS9 writer's room, and how much that Shows

After being an absolute nut about Trek as a kid, I dropped it in 2001 - I watched Enterprise all the way through for the first time last year and it was extremely worthwhile (except for a few episodes including the last one which I skipped, and the cast and crew would like you to skip, and was apparently imposed by Paramount but I digress). Recommend. (Also Babylon 5 which is a whole other post)
