So if my first impression of Tears of the Kingdom after trying it for a couple hours is "this is just an unnecessary rehash of BotW that seems completely disinterested fixing the problems that game had, but now with worse writing and level design," do you think anything's coming up that would change my mind?

Probably not, no. I liked it well enough, but if you’re not feeling it after a couple of hours then it’s probably not the game for you.
