If you're in the U.S., you've most likely seen at least one commercial about Camp Lejeune (a military base now famous for having a contaminated water supply) over the course of several decades. These commercials are looking for victims of said contamination as part of an ongoing class-action suit. The one segment of one commercial that I can't get out of my head went as follows:

"Will the United States military lose money if I sue them? No, the federal government has put aside money for settlements such as this one."

If your first concern about suing the laughably overfunded military that poisoned you for years is that they might be hurt by it, your loyalty stops being worthy of mockery and becomes genuinely concerning. As much as I like to derisively call people bootlickers, that mindset isn't one of military worship. It's a sign of severe abuse that's limited somebody's ability to care about their own well-being. How easily I can say "if my boss gave me cancer I'd be wearing their skin right now"; because I haven't spent my entire life internalizing that my managers are in all ways superior to me and I must be ready to die for them at any time.
