been watching Magic Knight Rayearth with @crocoshift and @morkitten (i started it last year but then there was moving and i fell off and we're restarting together lmao) and it is. truly among The Most 90s Anime i have ever seen. we got gem-encrusted armor left and right. world's biggest shoulders. people turning chibi and getting silly little oval kicky feet, constantly. it's great
also it has kind of a weird style and i think due to its relative availability and popularity with US anime fans in its time, i have a theory it may be directly related to some of the worst stylistic crimes i've seen in bad US How To Draw Anime Books? further research is needed but i keep seeing some uh, flourishes? i'd previously only seen in some really terrible books, except like, the show does them well, obviously, LOL
