This is a great example of how much I've changed my approaches to colors and inks, even with the second piece being essentially a chaotic sketch I feel like I managed to get across the same sort of structures but with waaaayyy more energy to them

this is honestly mostly inspired by a mix of votoms, 08th ms, and me just liking any excuse to draw fat cats hanging about

on one hand if I were to do this today I think I'd use a more exaggerated and clear-cut palette/lighting technique, but at the same time I can recognize that that might not necessarily make it any better

2018 to 2019

Painterly approaches to background materials never really worked well with me for some reason, and I'm happy that I ended up eschewing it in favor a more intense inking process. I feel like my approach to the water on the second one holds up much better under direct scrutiny, and more importantly creates this visual texture that I'm super happy with even three years down the line
