A combination of "my infantry is 43rd (Wessex), so the unit has to have palled around with them," "the unit has to have fielded Churchills" was painful even before I had to account for the decals that I have.
And there is very little firm grasp of what goes where exactly, though I did my best.
So this is one of the tanks of the C Squadron (round marking), 9RTR (yellow color, the 992 number), 31st Armored Brigade (the green hourglass).
One of the circles is filled in with black because sometimes the tankers did that, so Warlord included these in the Churchill box transfers. I scraped the black out of one before gluing it in, but I thought it made it fragile, so I left the other as is. Maybe I'll paint it in tomorrow.
The hourglass is a bitch of a decal because it follows the shape AND GUESS WHICH PART OF THE HOURGLASS SHAPE IS NOT VERY STRUCTURALLY SOUND??? Also, it's just not a very pleasing shape, but I was at my wits' end, 32st supported 43rd at Hill 112 and matching unit to tanks is always painful.
I have no idea if the unit ever had Churchill VI Bs and I don't care. Fuck you.
The 40 disc is the weight class. It doesn't go higher, Churchill is a huge bitch.
The star on the roof is what they used for aerial recognition in Europe to avoid getting pasted by Yanks friendly air.
9RTR has all "I" names (Iceni, Indefatigable, etc.), so I need to find a decal for one of the documented ones or make up my own (Inconvenient, Incontinent, Illegitimate, etc.).
War department number I can do without.
Weathering will be done at a much, much later date. I just can't anymore.
