I’m not the biggest fan of Apple, but they were so right when they used cute little symbols, instead of text for their modifier keys (⌃, ⌥ & ⌘).

Yess!! I love the Space-cadet symbols!! Wish I could get a keyboard with them printed on the keys!!!
Though, I do feel like ⎈ doesn’t really fit with the other symbols. I think something like ✶—from the same Unicode block as ❖ and ✦—, would fit with the other symbols much better.

when macs were first forced upon me for school, those weird symbols confused the hell out of me for years.. i still find them pretty counterintuitive.. conceptually it might make sense though, but i only think it would actually work if it were standard for all keyboards. using ⌃ is especially bad though because it is almost indistinguishable from ^. ⌥ is pretty cool though, i like that one. perfect symbol for an alternate key cause thats exactly what it looks like. but in classic apple fashion they renamed the key for some reason, undermining the symbol entirely. inscrutable squiggle ⌘, is an inscrutable squiggle and i to this day have no idea what they meant by that one.

i actually like the idea of using a little steering wheel ⎈ for control, thats pretty good.

Something that’s interesting about the Super and Hyper symbols, is that as far as I far as I know they’re only known used on Wikipedia, nowhere else. ⎈ and ◆ make sense, ⎈ is the ISO standard symbol for Control, and ◆ is used for the Meta key on things like Sun Microsystem’s keyboards. But, as far as I know, the Space-Cadet and related boards never used symbols for their modifiers, and I haven’t seen any other keyboard use the ❖ and ✦ symbols. Kinda interesting.

when I was doing up that keyboard concept a bit ago (hold on, i can just link this now: tulipbunny.au/stash) i went with a box for super and a star for hyper. i don't like how most of the symbols are made from lines, but ◆, ❖, and ✦ are filled in.
i was working within what I had on the editor there, I think maybe an outlined ❖ would be the best but that looks awful close to a windows key!

but the ship's steering wheel to mean 'control' is still odd to me. no wonder it's never used!
