wondering, in this setting, whether some of the diversity of seemingly mammalian features (horns, fur, erect legs, expressive facial features, etc.) or avian features (feathers, bipedal legs, beaks, etc.) of otherwise presumably saurian dragons could be explained not by magical hybridization nor even by convergent evolution, but by the reproductive strategy of dragons, wherein a certain amount of mimicry with warm-blooded hosts may improve zygotic deposition success.
of course, the real reason for giving a dragon horns is because they're cool.
but, like, horns are typically found in primarily herbivorous mammals.
