I love songs that are ostensibly about "silly" things, I'm listening to Village Green by the Kinks and I still love Phenominal Cat (mispelled originally), a song literally about a cat who travelled the world, discovered the secret of life but decided he was happy sitting in a tree being a fat cat. This entire album is just excellent at providing me with some whimsy.
"silly" 60s songs like this just hit different for me, I can't explain it. When I hear silly songs made now they feel like they're coated in a layer or a dozen layers of irony, I think songs like Phenominal Cat are completely sincere because they come off a very different time, different sensibilities and priorities, they had quaaludes, things just feel different.
