and wow what a gorgeous painting. I especially love this version depicted above, the name evokes something somber, but it gives me such an ethereal feeling of happinness and tranquility, if that makes sense. It's serene.
A while back I actually played an indie game that recreated and reinterpreted the isle of the dead and I was completely missing the context for it (which was knowing about the painting). I thought it was a super interesting experience, there's no "point" to the game except to experience it (i.e. that's the point), and I thought it was really nice just being in a place that felt very unique, I'm glad to know what inspired that one now. The game is called Peak Bleak Blues (and other moods) by Connor Sherlock. The game has many great moody landscapes to explore and take in but now I know why this one stuck with me, it's based off a sublime painting and Connor's ability to reinterpret it in a 3D game gave it a very interesting feeling, definitely fascinating to be able to walk around a painting in a way, it's something I think we've all thought of at some point when looking at beautiful art.
