where the game literally boots up with the alternate universe american flag on your face that's reminiscent of the betsy ross flag, but on the other they let you place pride flags on your camp so.. hooray? I appreciate the pride flag stuff but this shit sucks so bad lol.

fallout was never satire, that's a popular misconception, but it was at least self aware enough to acknowledge that the american government in its fiction was bad, actually. 76 just loves celebrating AMERICA and americana without thinking about the distinction between those two things or even if any of that should be celebrated? I feel like the devs responsible for churning out content for this game are like the people who think Liberty Prime in Fallout 3 was badass and cool for spouting anti communist slogans and not an obvious symbol of american jingoism taken to a ridiculous extreme.

at least the pride icons and flags are free on the cash shop, sigh

like Fallout 1&2 were somewhat satirical and that tradition carried on a bit with obsidian's later games (which is why New Vegas is accepted as the good modern fallout), Bethesda really just misses the point entirely, eeeespecially with '76's chest beating jingoism.

I'm not sure what the word for it is but like the idea that the satirical kinda dystopian world and themes of fallout 1/2 have just gradually Morphed into being whole hearted American Jingoism is like so bizarre
