to be clear, this isn't a joke. I genuinely think there are things to analyze and criticize about how native characters are portrayed in games, and as an example of how that's poorly done, the crash series of games has a character named "Papu Papu", and the most concise way I can describe him is that he's a character designed through a white, eurocentric colonial lens. This character has appeared in remasters of old games and they give him a makeover by adding polynesian inspired tattoos to his design, which isn't good, in addition to appropriating that cultural element, he still carries a skull on a staff for fuck's sake.
I feel like games as a whole still have a long way to go with regards to being less racist, native peoples aren't an aesthetic to be played around with, listen to native peoples and respect their cultures, learn about their struggles because it's not just past history, it's ongoing and happening right now.
