I feel like I'm losing my mind the more I stay on twitter, why are people moving to a social media site that nobody's ever heard of before all of a sudden, it sounds shady as hell yet people are just... happy to make accounts there "just in case".

people are falling for more scams than ever (e.g. running programs on their computer, or falling for e-mails scams) and this is genuinely worrying.

that shady social media :

  • doesn't have proper DMCA info
  • doesn't have a GDPR agent/data collector
  • didn't have a proper privacy policy until recently
  • are claiming 900k users despite only having <5k mobile downloads
  • have been incoherent about their funding scheme
  • and overall just doesn't let you know who is running it
  • (on top of a strict no-NSFW policy and having usernames everyone can take which will lead to impersonation, BOTH points having been heavily criticized on existing social medias)

and yet some people are jumping in blind? without even suspecting anything wrong?

i am not blaming anyone for the more technical stuff (like DMCA), but it is still crucial to check a service's reputation and policies before blindly giving them your data because ร  tiktok ad told you to register there.
