The Grape isn't as obscure as some 60s psych rock bands I love, but I still think they're highly underrated compared to your Jefferson Airplanes and Grateful Deads. I think Moby Grape deserves some more love, they were a group where everyone knew how to sing really well, their guitar work was really fresh and unique and they put out some fantastic albums, their self titled debut is great, their second album Wow is amazing (and originally came packaged with another record of jams called Grape Jam, seriously), Moby Grape '69 is a very nice album with a more country rock vibe to it and Truly Fine Citizen is a continuation of that trend and is also super pleasant to listen to.
I guess this sort of counts as some self promo, a while back I took it upon myself to upload Moby Grape albums to my youtube channel because it pissed me off too much that they weren't all fully available on streaming platforms, any of them. I acquired most of the albums, imported a CD (which became that playlist I'm linking up above of Wow) and also uploaded Skip Spence's Oar, he was a key element of Moby Grape and his solo album is another work really worth checking out, Spence is another tragic figure in the music industry in my eyes, much like Syd Barrett he was very troubled by mental health issues sadly, but the work he did really stands the test of time, his short time with the Airplane, and everything he did with The Grape and his solo work are incredible. I realize I'm rambling at this point but yeah I love this band a lot, check them out if you'd like.
