I've just stopped to read The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas and christ. Le Guin is a fantastic storyteller, the beautiful imagery of the perfect city is torn down with such finesse. I can see why it had such a massive impact and still stirs up the collective imagination. aren't we all constantly thinking of the child yet unable to do anything about the eternal suffering of the underprivileged..
