In every American community, you have varying shades of political opinion. One of the shadiest of these is the liberals. An outspoken group on many subjects. Ten degrees to the left of center in good times, ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally. So here, then, is a lesson in safe logic.
the song has very dated references and language but god damn if it still doesn't hit the nail on the head. I love that people keep rewriting the lyrics to it too, updating them with contemporary liberal bullshit as satire. Pete Seeger talked about "the folk process" where songs get changed, adapted, and I like to think that Phil would be happy to know his art lives on and is kept alive like this by musicians many decades on.
I saw someone changing the third verse to "I cheered when Obama was chosen, my faith in the system restored" and yup that's like.. they get it. the satire, the bite is still there and I love that.
