you can, actually! under the three dots you can silence any post including your own.
kills notifications and you won't see it on your feed or anybody else's

oh. it never occurred to me that silencing the post would do that, I just associate silencing with getting rid of it on the timeline, I'll do that right now, thank you for the tip!!
