well Ring (1998) was still very good like I vaguely remembered too. I'm going to try and upload it to the internet archive myself.
found some english subtitles that matched the movie I had perfectly fine, it feels like I assembled this out of spare parts (or two completely separate torrents where one the movie was only 15% available but the .srt files came through fine)
