It pisses me off that I can't easily access the official jefferson airplane forums anymore. I remember stumbling on them a few years ago I think, and they had already been closed down, no more posting was allowed, but it was really interesting seeing what people were talking about in there. After a redesign, the official site's killed it completely, there are no links to it anymore and I'm going to the wayback machine to try my luck. I wanted to try and find an image that was posted there, specifically a dropbox link (which may be dead now) with a picture of an early cover of their compilation album early flight, the one with the pterodactyl, the album is called early flight and had some previously unreleased material like an excellent version of high flying bird and JPP McStep B Blues (which featured Skip Spence I think, I'm pretty sure he composed the song). Anyways I recall it being called "Prehysteric" or something along those lines and I'd love to look at that picture again.
thanks Julia from a few years ago, you saved me just now. My posts talk a little about what it felt like reading that forum, I mourned its death and had some musings on who will even remember these things besides people who used to post there and the machines that archived it? Well I remember too. Anyways towards the end there was the wayback machine link I needed. I found the forum post talking about the unique early cover and the dropbox link was still fine, which is incredibly surprising to me. I'm happy I have this image again now :)
if you're interested in exploring a long dead forum (it's been closed since 2016) and you're into Jefferson Airplane, highly recommend taking a peek at this. It's part of internet history, one which I'm thankful I talked about once because it helped me years later.
