what I mean by that is doing studies. ideally one should do lots of studies (some say you should study from pictures of real people and less.. anime. I know art schools frown upon anime in general but that's valid to study too damn it) but I'm not great at that so I rarely do any.
I saw someone on twitter post these three images with four screenshots of hands from Gundam Witch from Mercury, and thought "wow this would be perfect to practice hands" so I tried doing that tonight with the first image. My attention drifted a lot and I didn't time myself or anything, just wanted to draw them and try to think a little bit about why I was doing these strokes, the way the finger is divided into parts, the way the tip should ideally be thinner than the base, etc. I'm kinda happy with the results, started very rough on the top two but I think the last ones look okay, especially for not being very simple hand poses. I tried staying very faithful to the references instead of putting my own spin on it, but maybe next time I'm drawing hands I can try and do things slightly differently (and hopefully better)
