context

I couldn't tell you the context to this scene even if I tried and I just watched this episode. fascinating little show, I still think I'd get a lot more out of the puns if I knew japanese and had more of the cultural context such as knowing landmarks, celebrities and even mascots.

Absolutely lost it at this segment where they were talking about cats and dogs, and one of them started talking about the kanji for dog and how she was never sure of where to put the little thingy when writing it, then they started talking about what the kanji could represent, and they said "oh it's a person with a hoe working with their dog", the little thingy being the dog, and they started talking about how the thingy could go anywhere then, or wow if there's only one the puppy is lonely, so there were a bunch of dots and the dots overwhelmed the person and consumed it.

Also this show literally starts with kicking the fourth wall down, talking about "I don't know why they'd adapt us into anime", and one of them says "but they're making so much effort into animating us" while she's moving in the most overly animated gesture possible, this is good stuff. There's a lot of stuff with the jokes and puns I'm missing out on because you can't translate humor that easily and I still don't speak japanese, but despite the jokes being super japanese, I've really enjoyed this first episode, they even have.. fanservice? of a sort? Mari gets naked not 10 minutes in because of a stupid discussion about everyday clothes and what you wear through most of the day, so she sleeps naked so her everyday clothes are being naked. it's silly and fun, will watch more later.
