he really meant gay, I like that the Kinks had this nice song about a gay man in the 60s.

They're likely more popular today for having had a trans positive song from back then, which some people say it's another "homoerotic" song because it's implied they don't think Lola is a woman. Those people are wrong. I get not enjoying Lola because some may see it as objectifying but I genuinely love that one too, Lola is great.

I bet he'd absolutely hate it, it'd be hilarious.

In case you haven't heard this one before, it's a really fun song, Chumbawamba made this in response to James Hetfield's comments about Metallica's music being used to torture Iraqi prisoners at Guantanamo, he was proud of it and went on record saying something asinine and incredibly stupid along the lines of "it represents something they don't like... freedom". Learning the story behind this song made me never want to listen to Metallica again.

I will always say I'm a fan of Big Brother & The Holding Company instead of a fan of Janis Joplin. I think Janis's popularity really overshadows the band she was a part of, and I feel strongly that she wasn't the sole reason the band was successful, but rather one element of its success. I don't much care for her work with the Kozmic Blues Band for example, Big Brother's music was really good!

That's just one silly example but I'm listening to Big Brother right now and this thought often comes to me.
