what in the god damn. so I bought and played through Starfield's "controversial" 7$ quest cause I'm a sucker and I genuinely thought that they shipped it with the main reward being glitched, which it absolutely was, yet I can't prove it to you so you'll have to take my word for it (others are probably experiencing this too)

anyways, you get a fancy gun upon completion of the bounty quest which is a laser sniper thingy, it has four shots in the magazine, I fired all four shots to get a feel for it and it just refused to reload, I kept clicking and an animation was failing to play, I was very confused. was the gun that broken? how? I was laughing at the thought that I paid 7$ for some voice acting, a quest and a stupid broken gun at the end, until I figured out that it reloaded only in third person mode. ????????

naturally I wanted to document this glitch, but turns out that rebooting the game fixed the gun not reloading in first person, now it works fine minor some animation jankyness. I almost feel like the game is playing a joke on me, I don't wanna say "gaslighting" cause that's a serious word we'd rather not use for stupid things, but wow. if you'll watch the video below, you can even see me briefly pause at the realization that it was now working, absolutely baffling.

I don't even have any grand thoughts on the quest itself, other than Stephen Russell remains a good voice actor and it's (maybe) worth it if you're already in too deep into Starfield, it's a fine diversion, could definitely have been given out for free however but I guess they made the first bounty quest so good to bait me and everyone else into buying this one. they got me. also the glitched gun got me as well, maybe it'll keep working or who knows maybe if I reboot the game again the magazine will disappear entirely, it's anyone's guess with bethesda.

lol starfield got confused on bootup thinking we owned the Premium Edition which we do not, but sadly it didn't give me 1000 bethesda fun bucks to spend on the shop either, you get a whopping 50 credits which is enough to buy precisely ✨ Nothing ✨ on the Creations shop, minimum cost for stuff is three free ones by bethesda, a buildable observatory, a weapon skin, a space suit, and everything else starts costing from 100 to 1000 credits which ranges from "barely worth it" to "super not worth it".

I find it interesting that Creations is essentially merging the approved official mods and the paid mods shop into one, and the unspoken rule is that even if a creator's verified, your achievements still get disabled if you install any free ones, I tested it with a cosmetic watch mod and it warned me it'd disable achievements. in our case it doesn't matter cause we platinum'd this god damn game but it's so pointless doing that for all free mods instead of just the cheat ones, like they have a category for cheat mods and yet all free mods are evil and will disable your cheevos, but not the paid ones! those are like "add-ons" and fine and good. nevermind that a lot of them in the Fallout 4 iteration of the mod shop caused game breaking glitches or were bad and unbalanced or barely worked, but that's outside the scope of this post. At least they finally made the shop UI useful this time around, they let you see the load order, uninstall or just disable mods from there instead of having to go into your game files to delete them manually.

Anyways I wanted to highlight some that I liked and some that I just found funny or bizarre.

A 200 credits mod for an in game HK USP pistol, called the "Enforcer" pistol

This one looks genuinely neat, the pistol looks great, it matches the vibe of the setting, and it's good to have more pistol options in the game that are just real world ones. Starfield's guns are... how do I put it, a Land of Contrasts, and this one looks like it'd be fun! I don't know that it's worth paying for though I probably would if I were still invested in this game.

screenshot of a free mod that gives you alternate start options to skip the long starfield intro

this mod is hilarious because it's a necessity for a lot of people for all bethesda games made after Morrowind, the "skip the tutorial" mod. it says a lot about bethesda's games that the only one that doesn't need this kind of mod is the one from 2002, every other one wastes your time so much it makes starting a new character a slog.

a paid for that costs 400 credits which adds a ramen stall to one of the major cities.

This one is the one I just think is bizarre. they're charging a considerable amount of money not for a player home (though those are available too), but for a ramen stall to be plopped into one city. they're probably charging more for this because they had to make navmesh changes, modify stuff, make the new vendor and just model the thing, but... who is this for. is this for people who miss the protectron in diamond city that's a one note joke about how it only speaks japanese? I genuinely have no idea why this costs so much or why anyone would wanna buy it, I appreciate the labor that went into making it real and that is valuable, but to whom. people who wanna roleplay eating ramen in the neon shiny cyberpunk city? this is just bizarre, I guess it'd be a nice addition to the city but when it costs nearly 4 dollars (converting the brazilian reais prices I'm seeing for the minimum 500 credits purchase on steam), I think I'd rather buy a chocolate bar or something.

trailer

I'm absolutely convinced now VR is a nightmare mess and furries are the only ones who know what to do with the tech, which is hanging out and experiencing cool species/gender euphoria feelings.

stuff like this makes me deeply curious as to what executive brains were thinking.. like sure they have a "working" version of Hitman 3 (and the other 2 games by extension) on PC that everyone hates and knows is bad and deeply flawed, so instead of ever reworking that they're farming out to another studio a completely rebuilt from scratch version of Hitman 3 with a "cel shaded art style" as a selling point, it looks like absolute ass in the beta footage shown in the trailer for 2 seconds which is why the trailer is mostly CGI fluff, and it's not even clear if this is gonna include the Hitman 2016 and Hitman 2 2018 levels because surely they'd brand it World of Assassination VR Reloaded if that was the case, right? I'm baffled. it really looks like it's being rebuilt from scratch because the Dubai server room didn't look spacious like that in the original game, it looks uncanny.

I'm definitely curious but curious in the sense that I wanna see how badly this is gonna flop or be in general. the studio's portfolio, XR Games, doesn't exactly inspire confidence and the "cel shaded art style" feels like less a selling point and instead them needing to do that to achieve acceptable non nausea inducing performance in that headset, but I'm no VR expert, we don't even own a headset cause it's ungodly expensive in brazilian lands but yeah. fascinated by it.

rate my dead popsicle husband. lol idk why I bothered but it's kind of a fun thought that you can indeed customize this guy who's always gonna get shot in the intro and be dead in the freezer forever. I like that you can just give him long grown out hair and full on beards, which if I know anything about soldiers is they probably wouldn't have that because the military's not a fan of that? I might be mistaken though. I don't think the US military in the fallout universe would be very lenient about that sort of thing, even if you're a war hero of some sort. I forget if Nate was at anchorage or what but at the same time.. I'm not sure I give a shit.

My Nora in this game is just called Nora cause I wasn't feeling creative, she has her hair bleached white because she was undergoing her schizo transformation arc and oops the apocalypse struck this morning when she applied some eyeshadow and eyeliner, so give or take 200 years and a dead husband later, she finally got out of the freezer and had to solve the mystery of her pipboy saying LOOKUP FAILED! by installing some mods and then she found some glasses and a funny hat in front of the museum of freedom. there might've been a guy calling for help but she didn't give a shit, Nora was now fully onboard with the post apocalypse lifestyle and shooting people in the back of the head for loot. that law degree was a waste of time so it's a good thing she also spent some time at the range pre-war, otherwise she'd be fucked. she always enjoyed shooting 10mm, it was a decent cartridge, she enjoyed reading about firearms back when magazines weren't a rare collectible and carried a 10mm colt, which she hopes to find again in the post war world.

ahem stopping the roleplaying, I was curious about survival mode and like an idiot bought some bethesda fun bucks for some creation club mods for fun. I always thought that conceptually survival mode was flawed. invisible hunger, thirst and sleep meters, debuffs, bullshit high damage.. I wanna see if I actually enjoy playing with it on, I have done no fast travel playthroughs in the past and that was neat! but.. the saving restrictions are so annoying I'm not sure I'm on board with those yet, a ghoul can slap you and make you lose half an hour of progress in a second. will come back to it and try to not get slapped or eaten.. later. should work on some art now.
