Telegram can no longer be the default messaging program for queer furries

It's full of fashies, it has zero moderation, you can literally get banned for no reason and all of your chats are gone.

I really do not like Discord, but it is still better. Signal better still. Get all of your friend's email addresses.

I didn't think this could happen to me, but here we are. I was so busy trying to pick another IM service that most of my friends are on so I can have Just One More And That's It, that I never made any new accounts at all. It's amazing that so many of my friends checked in on me on Discord so quickly.

I'm weirdly not that upset about this. I thought I would be. I'll still try to recover the account but I'll be fine without it.

What's unfortunate is that I haven't heard good things about Signal so much as the least bad things. I've heard from so many furries that Telegram is the only platform with reliable notifications that never fail, but I've heard from a few that Signal ate all of their message history.

But having options is more important than having nothing.

Girl i got so fucking worried when i saw your account showing as deleted, that fucking sucks ass! I'm looking forward to seeing you back on there and chatting again, lemme know if you need my @ or something or adding back to some groups! <3

Hey so i'm trying to add you via your discord link in your bio but discord is stupid and hates actual working functionality and simply takes me to a list of my friends in both browser and app. What's your discord username please?

Ohhh I'm just illiterate then lol. Also, it looked like I got a notif that you requested to add me as a friend, then I went to accept and initiated the friend request myself hahaha. I am in fact the dog getting hit by the frisbee on discord (and go by Tarukai788 there) X3

Oh what the fuck. :(

Glad to see you're alright, though. Not the first time I've seen this, frustratingly - local friend just went through the same shit.

Fuck, I miss the days when we had a bunch of different options.

i wondered why you had been so quiet recently ;w; am trying to see if i can help at all.
what does it say when you try to log back in? does it try to create a new account or does it say you're banned?

in reply to @plumpan's post:

i've never quite understood why telegram became the 'default'.

the only other groups I know of that use it are like, fascists, drug dealers, terrorists, and russians. why would i ever touch it with a ten foot pole!

I have no idea either, like who was using it before NaL stickers became a thing???

"but it's secure" it is NOT secure unless you use private chats and even then I would NOT trust it.

My wife ended up setting up a Matrix server for our friend group, but that's one of those things that's definitely not going to work for most people. Glad it's gotten us all off Telegram though

Unfortunately a lot of the best solutions to problems like this are "this is great if you're already a HUGE techie".

I've thought a lot about how contact syncing would work to any non local device and it's all "ok well I hope you know how to run a secure network endpoint of SOME fashion from home" basically. Can't really suggest anyone do that.

oh what
i don't use it for messaging anymore but that's where all my old contacts are and all the leftist/queer groups and activism news channels and ressource-sharing it would suck so much if my acc got deleted. just why- why would they do that. i've also had it since like 2016 & my account is still tied to my old number that i haven't used for like 4 years now... but at least the people i actually want to message use signal

I highly recommend changing the phone number to something you actually control and can receive text messages, right now. Ideally a phone number on a real SIM card and not a VoIP number because you'll have to get support after setting a VoIP number too...

Someone else I know had a random account ban and after getting it unbanned they couldn't SMS 2FA so the account was still unrecoverable.

in reply to @lapisnev's post:

Do they not sync if you're active on both?

I know that existing message history doesn't sync to new devices, which is a bit annoying but very much makes sense. Contacts not syncing also makes sense but is more annoying.

well if you have both an android and an ios phone on all the time i guess it's fine but if you're just switching to android or ios its not . u can migrate message history i know for sure from one android phone to another but can't do that across platform

in reply to @Framebuffer's post:

Signal does not sync old history for security reasons, but it does generate encrypted on-device backups so you can keep your history and move it between your phones

it is a little less convenient in that way but it is more secure

i do not think there is any one ideal service unfortunately
