the first was once part of a jetty. the second is a 'dolphin', used for mooring vessels away from the bank. this part of deptford was an active dock from the 17th through 20th centuries, though from the materials and condition i think these are both early to mid 20th century features – not sure if they'd be survivals of the heavy blitz damage this bit of the riverfront took, or part of the rebuilding efforts. the spherical object on top of the dolphin is a sculpture from the 90s, which i was unhappy but unsurprised to discover commemorates sir francis drake's voyages. but that's cultural reception of the thames for you.
