It's a neat little story but it's unbelievably funny how much "analysis" of The Beginner's Guide is trying to psychoanalyze Davey Wreden based on the game, like... did you... did you play the game. Did you pay attention at any point . Did you do that
"Maybe Coda is a real person and this is Davey's confession!" "Maybe Coda is Davey and this is something that actually happened to him!" Maybe you should turn your monitor on and then play the game again
I think there's things to be learned about Davey (and particularly how he handled The Stanley Parable becoming an absurdly huge hit) from the game, but there were game writers who played it and wrote as if Coda was an actual person who existed and I have no idea how the hell those people get through the day
Oh, I think there's a lot to be gleaned from it interpretively, it's a pretty straightforward story about expectations put on people who make stuff, parasociality, etc, that doesn't require any kind of like deep interpretation but people doing to Real Ass Davey exactly what "Davey" did to Coda is just, lmao

I compared it to S1M0N3 at the time, which feels like it's focusing on a tree rather than the woods
i really liked robert yang's "level with me" where he points out all the incredible hammer-mapping-skillz and artistry going into the game, stuff which you might not pick up on a first playthrough because (ime) it does such a good job making you get caught up in the story of "Davey Wreden's Guilt-Ridden Emotional Breakdown"
