Hi! We're a fairly diverse plural system with various origins and interests! ADHD, autism, likely BPD. Uhm... Yeah, gonna work on this a bit more soon?

tonight on xena takes: i think every gacha game should be taken down from every storefront and replaced with a one-time purchase version with all the content available through gameplay without a terrible grind.

i mean as-is there's no reason to ever get into any gacha game because it'll go offline and be utterly unplayable at some point. not to mention how horrifically predatory every single gacha game is without fail. bad system! get rid of it!

it's kinda notable the amount of end-of-service turnover in that section of the industry tbh. like a lot of games that were even quite popular like dragalia lost have gone offline, far more frequently than your average non-gacha live service thing

a mild but nonetheless extremely correct take

I've heard rumblings that there are moves overseas to make it so companies need to reimburse players in full for all in-app purchases when these titles shut down, specifically to curb/discourage this trend of making gacha games that are designed with the explicit intent of being shut down within a couple of years. I do not have any sources handy though.

at the very least I think it would strongly discourage the worst practices, if it happens.

unfortunately as long as these models remain profitable they'll be what companies make. but if measures like this can change that, then we may well see a shift back to more traditional models (single purchase/download to keep, no server dependencies, etc.), which would be nice.

one can hope, though I don't have a huge amount of faith in EU legislation to do anything effective about that in a reasonable time frame

I would've voted for it myself, but funnily enough some idiots in my country decided that we should take our ball and go home 🙄
