are narrative games with no characters a thing that exist

ok like. something like RollerCoaster Tycoon doesn’t have any characters or anything, but there’s also no real narrative. what i’m asking is, is there a game where the entire narrative is told through the environment, like you don’t even control anything sentient? (but there could be sentient creatures in the environment, even ones you influence through your control of the environment, but you don’t follow their story — they serve only to inform about the environment.) i feel like there’s some obvious example of this i can’t think of.
