man why was it ever considered reasonable for media streaming services and multiplayer games to require licenses from everyone engaging with one distinct session of their products anyway. that’s not how anything used to work. when you threw a DVD in your PS2 you could enjoy that game or movie with friends no problem, and you only paid for that one DVD. sure you all had to be in the same multiplayer match or wait with the movie paused while jenn went pee, but that’s what you wanted to do anyway.

now just let us do that but on the internet! no? why to fuck not?? you didn’t even care if there were multiple consoles before, DS Download Play worked great, but if they’re on the internet it’s bad?? if i buy a movie online i should be able to easily link my friends to my broadcast of it and watch with them. just make them wait when i pause it to go pee. surely a reasonable restriction here would be no more than 1 active shared movie stream per public IP or PC. games are even easier to deal with, just lock the other players to your session.
