i should talk more about my unusual control setups on here.

i got SS in all the main Dustforce levels in 2022 (yes, also all one‐handed), and i also wanted to SS Giga Difficult for the Steam achievement, but slowly failing switches in my Azeron Classic keypad (caused by overuse) made it too inconsistent for this level of precision platforming. i finally replaced them 2 days ago, and then spent the afternoon yesterday remembering how to play this game and getting this clip. (i don’t think i’ll SS the other extra levels, as i’ve consistently had issues with this game dropping dash inputs for no discernible reason, which gets very frustrating.) also, despite having SS in apparently all the levels needed for Dustforce’s SS+ Steam achievement, i have not received it. why not??

i do not play Dustforce one‐handed for any disability‐related reasons; my Azeron Classic keypad is just my preferred way to play games because i find it far more comfortable than gripping a controller in my hands. the analogue stick also provides far greater precision than arrow keys in applicable games, and even in most other cases (including Dustforce) i find it more intuitive to use.

Azeron keypads are overwhelmingly purchased for playing FPSes and to a lesser extent RPGs, and i also see Azeron and others promote them for productivity applications (which i also use mine for), but i rarely see them used in other contexts in the wild. i’m quite confident i’ve seen Azeron themselves say their keypads aren’t ideal for platformers (though i cannot find this statement now), but i would disagree; it remains my preferred input hardware of choice even for precision platformers like Dustforce and Celeste. (with the latter, i also use a keyboard in my other hand.)

there are absolutely people who use Azeron devices for disability‐related accessibility reasons though. for instance, here’s a guy who started a YouTube channel last month to talk about his journey into one‐handed gaming.

(spoilers: he ends up with an Azeron device! because they’re the only people who have put a joystick on a mouse. also he says nobody with 2 hands will want the Cyro but i am evidence against this, i will be buying one once this third Logitech G600 inevitably starts doing errant double‐clicks just like my last 2 did.)
