This hack was made for the recent Starbase Contest (much like my hack). I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I made a map of it.

As you can see the setting here, Hourglass Station, is shaped like an hourglass. You explore the station like a grain of sand in an hourglass, always being forced down by room transitions. When you get to the bottom and step in a save station, the hourglass flips (as they are wont to do). The top half is always pleasantly cold while the bottom half is always burning hot (a feature seemingly exclusive to this hourglass). This creates an interesting rhythm between slower-paced reconnaissance and faster-paced timed kaizo platforming.

Being a kaizo hack, it's hard to recommend, but
the core concept is excellently executed despite the unrelenting cruelty. Unlike a lot of other kaizo hacks, this is not a test of deep, technical knowledge (although that would certainly help). The difficulty comes from the fact that half of the hack is spent in nonlinear hellruns where you are either tackling large, meandering rooms or narrow, claustrophobic arrangements of blocks, while always dealing with enemies that hit like a truck. I was able to eventually beat it myself with my moderate skills, but I also know that it crushed the spirits of some top-level players as well.

Verdict: Recommend this to your enemies.

PS: I have no idea why this cribs the aesthetics of the old Robot Wants Kitty games, but that sure is something it does.

PPS: Like all of my maps, you can find this one on my website.
