personal account of a 30-something weirdo masquerading as a "ZZT company"

Oil Spill is the highest rated original Metroid Fusion and (despite being a valiant effort) a good showcase of the perils of hacking that game.

The hack manages to wrest control of the game's event system and have a non-linear structure, which is no small feat, but it's clear the hacker eventually reached the end of their patience or abilities by the end of the project. The hack ends abruptly and cuts to an unmodified epilogue, and evidence exists that suggests a final area and escape was cut. I have some issues with the overall balance and design of the game too, but considering the limitations they had to fight I can't really hold those faults against it.

I've had this map 98% done since mid-April, but thanks to a months-long procession of other projects it was really hard for me to drag my feet across the finish line to put this out (cinematic parallels, etc. etc.). Hopefully I didn't overlook anything major in my desire to get this out the door.

Anyhow, with this map finished, I finally have a mapped at one full-sized hack of Metroids 1-4. As always, you can find them on my website.
