(The ending screen up there looks very pretty in motion!)

Ezanya was a fantasy action-adventure game made in ZZT that was a winner of an official Epic Megagames-sponsored design contest. A couple years back I contacted the original author and got her blessing to remake it. Her only request what that I fix that one awful sliding block puzzle near the beginning.

The end result was a full visual overhaul of the game, but with all the original-ZZT-era bones still in place. The game is still tough, but it's been rebalanced so as to not always be on the razors edge in terms of resources. Additionally, tasteful amounts of dialogue and descriptions were added to otherwise contextless places to make the world more convincing.

One of my friends had these glowing words to say:

I’m comparing to the original boards on the Museum of ZZT, it’s interesting to see the artistic collaboration across 30 years of time there! I want to say it’s a 50/50 split as to who is responsible for each of my favorite aspects.

I recommend this to any hapless adventurers who like to charge ahead without questioning why they're being told to do this or that.
