I had this thought last week too. Instead of just looping the same one or two cutscenss at the main menu, a demo of gameplay would be great. Hell, just mix them in alternatingly
shout-out to the Rayman 1 demo where the player has absolutely no idea what to do and gets forced awkwardly through a solid platform https://youtu.be/WMq90o8e5cY?t=3m24s
The Mega Drive Mini has a nice feature for playing the attract modes for all the games in order if you leave it at the game selection menu. I like to leave it on sometimes when I tidy my room
The Super Metroid attract mode getting an extra set of scenes showing you advanced techniques (i.e. bomb jumping, the crystal flash, and beam combos) if you have a completed save file on the cartridge is still one of the coolest details about that game, IMO, which is saying a lot considering how cool Super Metroid is
There's only one thing that upsets me about a lot of attract modes. A few of the games I'm thinking of had attract modes that had like, 1 or 2 different gameplay scenes they could play if you left the game idle on the main menu. I get it, CD space is limited, but c'mon!! At least have 4! Still, better than just showing the menu forever.
