Inferna of the Embermaws was born the only survivor of her clutch, already at high risk due to her mother, Phlogia, passing away after laying the eggs due to a terminal disease taxing her body. Most eggs didn't hatch. The few that did never survived a few days. But her father Cauterek swears that while her current, quiet demeanor would indicate otherwise, Inferna held on through sheer grit and determination. Despite living to her early adulthood, she still maintains a skin condition that left her with multiple patches of ingrown scales that leave her sensitive to infection from the desert sand and in frequent need of medicinal care. For this reason, she tends to take her humanoid form more often than her true self to make applying gauze a simpler endeavor and wear clothing that can shelter her from the heat.
Her scales aside, she maintains much of the strength and power of a young Embermaw, with a prehensile whip-like tail, long claws attached to muscular arms, and her species' namesake fire breath. In addition to this, she's known to take up training with a reinforced wooden cudgel that she can ignite to use as a torch in dark caverns.
Though she's glad to be alive... she knows that the other members of the Embermaws give her looks. Say things when they think she isn't listening about her worth as a successor - the only successor to survive. Her smaller size lets her move around their nomadic camp without being seen as easily, and so she hears a lot more than her father does. But it leaves her feeling trapped in a sense, unable to actually be all of what she is like the others. However, after helping a trio of adventurers that had been ambushed, she found purpose, and family, among them that she had only felt before from her own father.
