I've been very hesitant about sharing charity posts related to Palestine because I don't know which ones are scams, I saw a post the other day on twitter asking for donations but saw it classified as an ad, and just now I wanted to share something positive about what's happening and I immediately got an ask begging for a donation with no link to a fundraiser.

I've been playing it safe by only resharing donation drives from mutuals and sources I actually trust but I'm really worried about scammers now, anyone have any way of verifying legitimate and fake donations?

don't know who else is gonna get any benefit out of this but screw it, went back and checked some stuff out to be more confident because the idiots at tumblr are starting to attack these people so we need to start making it clear how to at least run a background check.

  • if you're unsure about the account, check the accounts they claim they were verified by, odds are their previous account got removed and they're picking up
  • if you shared a previous campaign, check if there's an overlap in accounts that verified them
  • if you can, find the old blog that was sharing their link and if the links are the same it's legitimate
  • if the donation page has a buyer protection, it doesn't really matter if it's an illegitimate donation, people can get their money back if it turns out to be a fake anyway.
  • for the love of everything DON'T HARASS THEM, even if you think they're fake, if there's even a 0.0001% chance it's not fake, it will never be worth accidentally harassing someone who needs help
