i've been getting these robocalls for WEEKS where someone says they're part of the Protect Our Police PAC or Thin Blue Line PAC or whatever they're called and ask if it's okay to play a prerecorded message. then they play it immediately before i have a chance to say "no, and please put me on your Do Not Call list". if i hang up, they just call back the next day

today, i sat through the message. it was asking me if i was willing to donate, waiting for me to say "yes", asking how much i'd like to contribute, and waiting for me to say an amount. then a real person came back on to ask for my credit card information. i said "i only agreed to give money because it's the only way you would listen. put me on your Do Not Call list immediately or i will contact the FTC". the person on the other end had the absolute gall to, instead of saying the thing you're usually trained to say ("we will put you on our DNC list"), they went with "sir, this isn't a scam". which you know, really made it seem like this was a scam! you brought the word scam up, not me!!! i said "why are you still talking to me?! take me off your fucking list!". that seemed to work. but if i get another phone call tomorrow from the Wifebeaters On Patrol PAC i'm going to appear in the newspaper

imagine if phones were a utility for communication between people who wanted/needed to talk to each other instead a vector for spam and aggravation. imagine if the internet was also like that. we should figure out a way to talk to each other without con men who may or may not have degrees from business school because let's face it they're all con men ruining it for a few short-term dollars. whoever invented advertising and marketing and sales should've been dropped into the ocean from a significant height as well as anyone who tried to follow in their footsteps

tim walz missed the first phone call from kamala harris asking him to be her running mate because "it was from a blocked number and he didn’t want to miss a call". not even the people in power can use their fucking personal cell phones anymore!! they also have to assume every unknown number is a scam robot trying to trick old people into sending them amazon gift cards. what the fuck are we doing!!!

oh bruh you're lucky you're only getting it from one; I've been getting it from:
hospitals
firefighters
police
politicians
random charity of the days

it seems like this is legit just the new system being peddled to any 'call center' based operation. I don't know how they were convinced doubling up on robots was a smart decision.

It's funny, a large chunk fo the GOP financial base are people who participate in like, semi-legal fraud. Car Dealerships, pyramid schemes, crypto shills, and sketchy insurance/warranty schemes that just barely fail to qualify as fraud.

If the party was smart and effectual and had any ground game or interest in local politics, the democrats would be positioning themselves as cracking down specifically on fraudulent operations like that, putting in consumer protection laws that also coincidentally directly strike at the GOP's most consistent source of donations.
