A Clown, A Goblin, A Helluva Woman

  • she/her

I make games and talk far, far too much. My views and expressions do not reflect that of my employer at any given time. πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ/πŸ‘©β€β€οΈβ€πŸ‘©/πŸ’

The current avian death occurring has me considering how interesting it is that we ascribe entire phrases, concepts, or abstract emotions to singular symbols in emoji, but differing phrases, concepts, or emotions to sequences of them. For example, the Transgender flag is often represented as πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ, especially on websites that do not yet support an emoji installation standard that contains the trans flag yet. You only have to look at πŸ‘… to see the various strings to use it in.

I wonder how much of an impact Twitter had on our adoption of some of these standards? With the short character count, and bios wanting us to describe ourselves in a similarly constrained fashion did it accelerate such a process, define it, or was this something that happened independently of it and just was the stage to show off a skill folks built? I find it interesting. Particularly when I am crafting the string of emoji for the end of my own bio, and I come to points that are not immediately obvious or generally known.

πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ/πŸ‘©β€β€οΈβ€πŸ‘©/πŸ”ΊπŸ’. The first one is the Trans flag, as I mentioned. Cohost doesn't feature an emoji set I can access the flag directly on. πŸ‘©β€β€οΈβ€πŸ‘© is the best, and most obvious, call I have for Lesbian. I think it is self explanatory, but as a sapphic woman you can never be too sure. A lot of us (many times me) are uselessly oblivious. The last one though is the one I am sorta... winging. πŸ”ΊπŸ’ might need some work. It is also a relatively new discovery to my life so it isn't like I have had hours poured in to it either. It is supposed to be Polyfi. πŸ€”

Either way, the method we use emoji's today is fascinating. I end up thinking far too hard about things that mean far too little in the long run but I wanted to blather about it. Share your favorite Logographic emoji strings and their meanings. I'd love to know more. Or suggest a better identifier for Polyfi if you have one.
