A fun thing about BOTW (again, not the new one) is how much of the world doesn't directly serve the main quest, like there's the areas around the four divine beasts that are all themed around their respective societies but then you still have the rest of the kingdom of Hyrule, I was dead certain the forest that would have the master sword would be down in the southwest quadrant of the map just because there didn't seem to be a beast there and I was like "well, because of GAME DESIGN there simply must be something important there" and nope, there's just a little fishing village because that's where the little fishing village is.
