idk how to use this website lol a friend was like "oh im tryin to get into cohost but idk how to find people since I can't look at follow lists" and I was like yeah i. dont follow anyone. there's like two people I follow here that I didn't follow on twitter or know from somewhere else first and one of em I got bored real fast and unfollowed. The answer based on site design seems to be "use tags" but I feel like we can be honest here and say that most of us just aren't using em, and that's not like a "shame on them" thing because I just didn't... ever have to tag stuff. I don't have the impulse. Tagging feels fake, I barely even used hashtags on twitter. Tagging is good but I'm just not gonna do it for every post, it's not in my nature to do so. And I think a lot of people on here are like that too if they're bein honest with themselves. So tags don't quite get everything and you can't really browse anything so how do you find people on this website, actually

The obvious answer is "you see a share of a post you like and you want to follow them" but that only applies if you are already following people, if your feed is empty you don't see shares of anything. More personally, I haven't seen a single post (or comment!) on here that's made me go "oh yeah I should follow this person". That's more of a me problem than a website problem but it is true. My feed is already a mess whenever someone makes a good joke, adding more users would just introduce more noise.

This is wild to me, the clear answer to me (apart from people I already know) is reblogs.  I'm following a bunch of cool new artists b/c they popped up on my dash.  That's how it went on Twitter too, looking at follow lists was not how I did that at all

Browsing tags helped me find people to follow even if I wasn't tagging my own posts, but also I just accepted having to learn new habits like tagging (I never used hashtags or Tumblr and also didn't have a tagging habit) to try and get a healthier feed and so far it's working out

I honestly didn't know follow lists were a thing that people used to find people to follow, that's interesting, seems like it's be such a huge pile to sort through unless you know someone with extremely similar tastes

To be clear I also think looking at someone's follow list for follow ideas is an insane thing that only someone nearly a decade younger than me would say like it's normal but I realized I have no alternative to suggest.

I have not had a single interaction on this website that makes me think "oh boy I want to see your bullshit on my page regularly". My feed is already full of the same joke repeated five times, why would I exacerbate that?
