This post has content warnings for: queerphobia, about salvation army's wokewashed marketing.
Even putting aside the queerphobic stuff, Salvation Army is Not Great about how they treat their residents. Here in Austin, where shelter beds are desperately needed, they closed their downtown shelter with a single month's notice earlier this year. The city had to literally intervene to get them to keep it open for another month and basically demand they assist the residents in finding new spaces to sleep. It was a huge disaster and the Salvation Army had to be dragged kicking and screaming by multiple Homeless Outreach orgs to do anything for the people it was abandoning. https://www.austinchronicle.com/daily/news/2023-02-28/downtown-salvation-army-to-close-for-good-in-two-weeks/
