i am begging web developers. they are called check boxes. the "check" part of the "check" "box" is an unambiguous indicator as to an enabled state.

if you look at this and thought "oh, when they're dark, they're enabled": no. white is enabled. black is disabled.

this is what i mean when grump about web shit: you have to try to fuck this. if you just put a simple-ass input type=check into your site, you will get a happy box ☑️. you have to intentionally fuck this up.

In fairness, this is almost certainly from web designers (or their managers), not web developers

a lot of these kinds of design practices come from people who aren't really familiar with the technical aspects and don't realize just how much extra work has to be done so that their product's checkboxes don't look like everyone else's checkboxes. but they outrank the developer, who is told to follow that person's plan without complaint

in this case, i wouldn't be surprised if it was two separate people designing this and not working together at all, and then the developer having to combine their designs. it wouldn't be half as bad if those boxes were turning green or something instead

the checkbox behavior has the distinct feel of a boomer manager who thinks that lights turning on when something is turned on (like an old timey control panel) is a fun design interaction that sets them apart. but no one told that boomer manager that the UI designer coming up with the overall style language for the product chose a monochrome color scheme on a flat UI
