Initial impression of "who is this for" gave way to "man I just want to play one more round and try one more item", so I guess the answer is it's for me, oops. Icefrog games are just built different!
Day9 has a really good vid where he's just going over the various mechanics and how they all come together and I really appreciate how enthusiastic and curious he is about all of it. Mirrors my own feelings about the game pretty well while being a lot more interesting because he's Day9.
The movement possibilities in this game are off the charts, both in terms of the intended techniques (dash-jumping has a visual cue and even a specific error message if you fail the timing) and potentially unintended ones (charged melee attacks provide enough forward momentum to do aerial maneuvers that don't cost stamina)
The item shop is a dizzying amount of potential, and the way the mechanics work so that so long as you're buying something you're getting stronger makes experimentation feel a lot less punishing.
Consistently surprised at how much voice acting there is for a game that's on its third/fourth complete aesthetic overhaul, but the paranormal 1920s america vibe already has more legs than anything based in Half-Life or more generic sci-fi. One fun side effect of this is hearing in-game lines refer to Patrons as "patron", "titan", and "avatar".
