          Gum Monster!!!

I’m more of a “read and share” kind of guy when it comes to the issue of racism on cohost cuz I don’t think I have any useful insight on the matter but there is one common note I see in a lot of those posts that doesn’t line up with my perspective, so I want to see if it tracks with anyone else’s.

People keep describing this as "the leftist site" but I never got that impression at all from my time here, even when I was actively trying to look for it. If we agree that cohost's original cohort was more or less a hodgepodge of furry, tech, and general nerdery (I'm just assuming that was the case - I wasn't around from the very beginning or anything), then it would stand to follow that the prevailing ideology of that site would be the same as those groups, and that's always been american liberalism, not leftism. To put it in less abstract terms, these are democrat voters - They might deny it, or write lengthy screeds justifying why it's actually revolutionary to do so, or they might just genuinely not see anything wrong with it - but they are all the type to vote blue no matter who. And I feel like I'm not saying anything we don't already know when I say that democrats are known for only being anti-racist until right up to the point where marginalized folks get too loud for their comfort, and then the knives come out. The same thing happens on individual levels, and as far as I can tell it's the same thing that happened here.

I don't know what good can come from this observation, since there's nothing actionable to be done at this point, but it'd be bugging me for awhile and I figure there's no longer any long-term consequences here, so I'm taking a chance that maybe someone else can get something useful out of it.
