I don't use mastodon currently but one thing I've noticed that many of my peers complaints about their experience seems to be the result of poor moderation rather than any inherent flaw in the platform. Like as far as I can tell aggressively CWing even mundane topics isn't something inherent to the platform, but most folks just signed up to some really crusty servers and had a bad time. Sucks to suck!

The problem is that the kind of person who runs a Mastodon instance is either a complete bozo, absent (it's hard), or Gargron, and the Gargron servers have their own issues
