last night I watched the Five Star Stories OVA and I gotta say I did an instant 180 from "none of this makes any sense" to "oh, that makes PERFECT sense" after I looked up the original creator Mamoru Nagano, and found out that he was the Sailor Venus in that famous Ikuhara Sailor Mars cosplay shoot
not the OVA itself, of course, the OVA itself is completely narratively incoherent, as is the custom for adaptations made during the OVA boom that never imagined anyone would watch them other than the most hardcore pre-existing fans. but the vibes
started reading the manga. the first volume ends with a 7777 year spanning chronology, four thousand years of which are into the future of the story. it also ended with this absolutely incredible author photo. I will reserve all further commentary for now.
okay I guess I have now read every single issue of this comic available in english so here's my commentary: this is some of the most wiki-brained shit I've ever read in my life. I think I would go completely insane if I had read this over the span of 37 years and not shotgunned all at once. also, I can't believe that I ever implied that Ikuhara was the influence in this relationship when the whole premise is attempting to invent The Sequel To Gender from chivalric first principles and just goes on from there
